Some experiments with torsion and non-linear analysis in Grasshopper using my structural engineering plugin, Emu. Here’s a simple L-frame, clamped at one end and loaded with a vertical force at the other. Some thoughts 👇
It’s quite fascinating to observe how the bending moments redistribute as the force at the tip changes. Initially, I thought the converged results seemed a bit off, but after double-checking in MATLAB, I found that both the support reactions and tip deflection showed less than 1% deviation compared to benchmark calculations 🎉
I think the moment vector length (shown as MTOT in the video) is quite useful for visualizing moments around all axes at once. However, I’m unsure how practical it is in real-world scenarios. Does anyone use moment vector length in their work? 🤔
