about

My name is Emil Poulsen and my background is a mixture of architecture, engineering and software. I am currently based in Stockholm, Sweden, where I work for CORE studio at Thornton Tomasetti as an Applications Engineer.

I received a Bachelor’s degree in Architecture and Engineering 2012, Master’s degree in Structural Engineering and Building Technology 2015 and a Master’s degree in Architecture and Urban Design 2016 – all of them from Chalmers University of Technology, Sweden. In parallel to this, I have also taken courses in programming (C#, java, algorithms, data structures, database tech, software design patterns etc.) to sharpen my toolbox as a designer and engineer.  I have also previously worked for Buro Happold Engineering in Bath, England (2012-2013) in the SMART Solutions group – the company’s team for computational expertise.

I tend to get involved in projects that require development of bespoke plugins and software, often including complex geometries. Automation using COM/API interoperability, optimization, rationalization of free form architecture are also common topics as well as software product development.

I am interested in the employment of computational methods and the advances of technology in the context of design and the built environment to enable a better and more sustainable future. The purpose of this site is to publish the stuff I do in relation to design and technology. Everything from architectural and structural design projects to software developments.
