My name is Emil Poulsen and my background is a mix of architecture, engineering and software. I am based in Stockholm, Sweden, where I run my company Modelup. With Modelup, we build 3D apps and configurators using Rhino Compute, and we have developed a high-performance compute system based on Grasshopper. Read more here.

I hold a Bachelor’s degree in Architecture and Engineering, a Master’s degree in Structural Engineering and Building Technology, and a Master’s degree in Architecture and Urban Design from Chalmers University of Technology, Sweden.

I have previously worked for Buro Happold Engineering in Bath, England in the SMART Solutions group (2012-2013), Ramboll (2016) and CORE studio Thornton Tomasetti’s (2016-2024). In these companies I got involved in projects that require development of bespoke plugins and software, often including complex geometries. Automation using COM/API interoperability, optimization, rationalization of free form architecture are also common topics as well as software product development.

I am interested in the employment of computational methods and the advances of technology in the context of design and the built environment to drive progress toward a more sustainable future.
